Pattern Shop
Everything in the foundry has to start with a “pattern”. A pattern or tooling is a full-size model of the part you are trying to cast, patterns can be made from various materials such as mahogany, metal, plastic or styrofoam. It is very important to have suitable patterns, for the quality of the casting is influenced by the quality of the pattern.
Dews Foundry’s in-house pattern shop works closely with the foundry to ensure that the proper patterns are built and maintained in order to meet our customers requirements. Our patternmaker’s have both the skill and vision to take a part from a blueprint and turn it into a physical part. Whether you need a prototype or production tooling, Dews has the capabilties to meet those needs.
Dews Foundry maintains a very large on-site pattern storage with an automated sprinkler system to ensure that your patterns and tooling are protected while in storage at our facility.
Heat Treatment
As it’s name indicates, heat treating is a process where you heat the castings to elevated temperatures to transform the microstructure. Heat Treating is performed to make castings very hard for maximum abrasion resistance, or very soft to make them machinable. At Dews Foundry we heat treat our castings to make them very hard for maximum abrasion resistance.
Dews Foundry utilizes two computer controlled gas fired heat treat ovens to ensure that our castings reach their maximum hardness levels.
Our castings range in hardness from 600 – 700HB
Blanchard Grinding
Blanchard Grinding, technically referred to as Rotary Surface grinding, removes large amounts of stock quickly and efficiently. This allows Dews to ensure that once the parts reach the customer they can be confident that the castings are going to fit properly in the machine.
Dimensional Tolerances of approximately 0.001 parallelism and flatness per foot of diagonal of part are acheivable with our Blanchard Grinder.
Dews Blanchard grinds everything from crusher table liners to H.S.I. Hammer Bars, and Curtain Liners. With it’s 66″ table and 200hp motor Dews can quickly process parts for the mining, quarry, and recycling industries.
